UNIQUE PUPPY BORN WITH AN EXTRA TAIL ON HIS HEAD
Meet Narwhal, a puppy born different from the rest. He was found "in rural Missouri" and brought into Mac's Mission Shelter in Missouri.
Narwhal is a 10 week old Dachshund-mix and is the cutest thing even with some unique features.
Rochelle Steffen founded Mac's Mission nearly eight years ago and, since then, the focus of the nonprofit rescue has been on dogs with special needs.
"I saw the picture and I almost didn’t believe it was real," Said Steffen "When I saw him Sunday morning, I got excited. He was the cutest thing you’ve ever seen, and he was so happy."
Steffen took Narwhal to Cape Small Animal Clinic to be examined. Dr. Brian Heuring, who has been a veterinarian for 16 years
He said the tail is likely a congenital defect. Those usually manifest in dogs as cleft palates or extra toes and causes can range from environmental factors to toxins the puppy's mother may have been exposed to. He does not need to have the tail removed
Heuring said Narwhal is an "outstanding puppy."
"I think this puppy has the opportunity to show people that being unusual is OK," he said. "He can go into schools and hospitals and show people it’s OK to be different." And we think so to.
So we're happy to report that this little guy is going to be okay.
What would you do if you had this little guys ? Would you keep the tail or have it removed ?
